Sonny F. Cardeno

Sonny (Segundo) Cardeno has practiced law since 2001 and began his practice as a Trust & Estates attorney at a boutique law firm in Sacramento.  He transitioned from transactional law to litigation in 2003 in the area of general liability and medical malpractice defense.  He joined Jacobsen & McElroy in 2007 to expand his litigation background to include construction defect and returned in 2019 after 10 years of continued litigation practice in the area of construction, including as staff counsel for a large insurance company and as corporate counsel for a local construction business. Sonny’s practice with Jacobsen & McElroy continues to focus on the defense of complex litigation matters involving construction defect and has expanded to include subrogation and habitability claims.

Sonny graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 1992 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. After working as a Paralegal for a large San Francisco civil firm, he returned to Sacramento where he earned his Juris Doctorate at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2001. He was admitted to the California State Bar in December of 2001 and is also licensed to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.  Sonny is also member of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California.

In his spare time, Sonny enjoys spending time with his family and friends watching NFL, MLB and NBA games, and is an avid Chicago Bears sports fan. His weekends are often spent cheering on his son’s traveling basketball team at tournaments throughout Northern California, and exploring the various local breweries and wineries that the Sacramento Valley has to offer.
